Does it need batteries? No. The built-in battery recharges from the solar panel every day it gets sunlight — nothing to buy, nothing to swap.

Will it turn on by itself? Yes. It charges during the day and comes on after dark on its own. Give it a full day of direct sun before the first night for the strongest charge.

Where should I put it? Anywhere outdoors that gets direct sun for most of the day — lawn, flower bed, walkway or a large planter. Shaded spots will charge slower and glow dimmer.

Is it weatherproof? It's built to stay outside for the season. We don't have a specific waterproof rating from the supplier, so bring it in ahead of severe storms.
